2023 Trend Recap
2023’s been quite the year for Fashion! We’ve watched as trends rise and fall right before our eyes, trends we could’ve never predicted. Even though the future of Fashion is still in the hands of high-end brands, usually settled during Fashion Week, the advent of social media has made trends more and more accessible, making it easier to follow them.
BALLET CORE
If you lived in the year 2023, you definitely came across that one fashion girl wearing ballet flats. Miu Miu made the announcement during their 2022 spring/winter collection, and, suddenly, ballet core was everywhere.
High slick buns, gaiters, soft pink, a bow for each part of the outfit: these trends have been incorporated together, creating a full-on “ballerina off duty” look, but also as a detail to divergent aesthetics. We were surprised by the styling of ballet flats with jeans and bows tied to everything, from a biker jacket to makeup, on the hair, and anywhere else you could imagine.
LONG SKIRTS & JORTS
These two trends have proven you can make ugly pieces beautiful if you’re making the right styling choices. A clear contrast to the previous micro skirt trend, we're here for it!
I must admit these sounded a bit odd to me at first (especially the jorts), but once you start rocking them on the fit, there’s no doubt they’re a statement piece.
ADIDAS SAMBA
The sneaker of the year, I dare to say. To me, these bring back a 2003 vibe, the three stripes with the flat and rounded toe.
The sambas were certainly the star of 2023, but you could choose between a bunch of their cousins to stand out from the crowd: Adidas Gazelle, Mexico 66 Onitsuka Tiger and Adidas Superstar in the colour black.
COWBOY BOOTS
I resisted this one for a while, fearing it was only going to be a seasonal moment, but I believe it’s safe to say the cowboy boots, as controversial as they sound, had a major impact on 2023. Not only that, but the entire country-aesthetic.
Cowboy boots were spotted this year combined especially with mini and maxi dresses/skirts, mini shorts and jorts, but also jean pants. As far as colour patterns, this type of footwear was exhibited in brown, black, red, beige and - drumroll - chromatic colours!
2010’s FASHION
Last, but not least, if 2021 was the year of Y2K, 2023 has been the return of 2010’s trends. Big bags, big belts, dresses over pants, biker boots, ugg boots, capri pants and more! Now that’s something we never thought we’d see again!
If you want to know more about the return of the 2010’s fashion, we wrote an article on the topic. Click here to read!
It’s important to remember Fashion is cyclic, so it is expected that trends rise and fall and then rise again. However, what makes good fashion sense is not picking up on every single trend that pops up, but incorporating the ones that go with your already set personal style.
These were just a few of the trends from 2023. Which ones do you think are here to stay?
