Crafting a Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Capsule wardrobes have gained enormous popularity over the years and it's easy to see why. Usually limited to 10-30 pieces, a capsule wardrobe is all about versatility and creative styling, ultimately taking up less space in your wardrobe whilst encouraging you to buy less and wear more.

I have dabbled in the capsule wardrobe life previously, and admittedly, it works amazingly for quick styling, lowering your cost per wear, and slowing down on purchases. This method is often beneficial when creating a workwear or vacation capsule, and perfect for creating a useful wardrobe for the season ahead.

If you have ever been interested in creating a capsule wardrobe, keep reading for tips on how to start.

Starting with accessories, I have chosen to keep it simple. I have only chosen one bag for this capsule as this choice in particular is a great example of a versatile piece that will work for most occasions.

For footwear, I have opted for three choices: a smart option (the classic loafer), a casual option (the trending Adidas Samba) and a dressy option (the kitten heel). These options will allow you to effortlessly update an outfit for its intended purpose.

As this is a winter capsule, an accessory to consider is a good scarf option. I have chosen this blue and Burgandy stripe piece to add a pop of colour and interest to our outfits.

For outerwear, we have three options. Firstly is a long wool coat, a chic option that will really pull a look together. Secondly, I have chosen a blazer, every wardrobe, capsule or not needs a good blazer, a perfect piece that can be casual and yet smartened up when required. Lastly, is a practical waterproof option, something you can chuck on over your outfits without compromising on style.

For our top half, we have a simple cardigan, I have chosen this piece of knitwear over a jumper as it allows for more styling and layering options. Next up is a simple white tee, not much explanation is needed other than it's a classic wardrobe staple. I have then chosen the ever-so-versatile Oxford shirt, for my colour palette, I went with the blue option. Nothing will work harder in your wardrobe than a cotton shirt.

Lastly, we have a dress option. Usually, this piece would be the ‘little black dress’ option. Personal preference dictates this piece but ultimately, you want a dressier option that you can just chuck on and go.

Moving onto bottoms, a capsule wardrobe wouldn't be complete without a good pair of denim jeans. As this is a winter capsule, I opted for the indigo denim over a lighter wash. Next up is a pair of black tailored trousers, a surprisingly versatile option that works just as well on the weekends with trainers as they do in the office with a pair of loafers. Lastly, we have a wool skirt, a great alternative that will update your outfit combinations.

From casual weekends, to office-appropriate work wear and cocktail hour with the girls, here is how I would style these pieces!
