The Secret to Shopping Eyewear

Growing up, I always thought glasses were an uncool accessory. Personally, I started wearing prescription glasses at age 11, and especially after puberty all I ever wanted was to get rid of them.

It’s only now, several years later, as an adult, I’ve come to realize how much of a game-changer a pair of glasses can be when you’re styling an outfit.

There are a lot of different techniques when it comes to choosing the right eyewear. You can match the frames to your face shape and the colour to your personal colour pallet. For instance, if you’ve got more of a square face shape, a round/oval and thinner frame can help soften your features, whereas if your face is round in shape, rectangular and bold angular lines glasses would suit you best.

For oval face shapes, you can go big, with oversized and bold frames. Heart-shaped faces go really well with frames that have details on the lower portion, as well as cat-eye frames and a modified wayfarer.

Now, if you’re thinking colour, there are a lot of other factors to be considered, such as your eye colour, your hair colour, your skin tone, etc. Of course, these tips could guide your eyewear hunt, but it’s only when actually wearing the frames that you can tell if they suit you or not. Either way, here are a few of my favourite choices to inspire you.

Go big or Go Home

I adore wide and bold frames, they’re such a statement! Contrary to what most people think, big frames can complement your features so well, you just have to find the right pair.

Office Siren

This trend marks the comeback of the secretary from a 2000s film. It’s giving Giselle in “Devil Wears Prada” and I’m here for it. It’s business casual with a bit of a sexy twist - a bit of a punk twist even, if you ask me. Think thin frames with even thinner eyebrows and you got it!

Round and Classic

You can't go wrong with round smaller frames - my personal faves! On the more classic side, these are so atemporal, I feel like they never go out of style no matter the frame design.

No matter the choice, I think it’s safe to say eyewear is underrated. So, upgrade your eyewear and join the fun!
