We can wave our goodbyes to the short but sweet UK summer and welcome in the Autumn season. The temperature has already begun its decline and the rain is now a common feature on our weather apps, however, all joy is not lost. It’s the season to reacquaint ourselves with the place we call home and embrace all the small pleasures this season has to offer us, It is Hygge season after all.
Hygge {hoo-gah}, is the Danish term that encompasses the culture of all that is contentment and cosiness, and nothing feels more hygge than the Autumn and winter season. It is a time of the year that makes us want to curl up with a blanket and read a novel, light a candle and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, create a calming atmosphere with low lighting, fresh cut flowers and fresh bed linen waiting for our arrival.
H&M Home has never been one to disappoint, and the new season homeware (as always) has my attention. At an affordable and favourable price point, it’s always a go-to of mine when looking to make small home updates. From soft furnishings to lighting, I have put together a little edit of my favourite hygge-inspired home items.

Soft throws are a must-have as we head into the colder months. Whether you’re curling up on the sofa watching Gilmore Girls or enjoying a good book, a cosy blanket is your new companion and H&M has some beautiful options; warming wool blends, soft cable knits and beautiful autumnal patterns. Nothing creates a cosy atmosphere more than lighting a candle. Soft, warm lighting mixed with a beautiful aroma that fills the room can’t be beat. My favourites for this time of year are those warm, woody and Smokey scents. There is also the bonus of those with ceramic and glass containers that look beautiful on the side once you blow out the candle.

This is the season we switch up our drink order from an iced coffee to a hot cup of pumpkin spice latte, and if you are anything like myself, you can never have too many beautiful mugs. From speckled stoneware, and glazed ceramic to patterned and bold, H&M has the most beautiful options.

Early nights and cosy Sunday mornings call for fresh duvets. Nothing beats those warm sheets when the cold snap hits. In fresh cotton, muslin and seersucker fabrics, these duvet sets will welcome you in. The stripe, check and botanical patterns have been given an autumnal update with warm tones and soft greens, It will be hard to choose just one new set!

Lastly, the hygge season is all about creating a cosy and calm atmosphere, and one of the best ways to achieve this is by utilising soft low lighting; there is no ‘big light’ on in this house. Adding small table lamps with shades that help with the warm glow is your best choice.
