Rolf Ekroth A/W 24
Most well-known for creating lines which honour himself and create odes to the people before him, the designer rooted his latest collection in nostalgia. Based on his vivid childhood memories and how he was influenced by the culture and climate in his home country of Finland, Ekroth describes his most inspiring ones to be the ones where he was sitting on the couch in his family home watching winter sports as a child. “The Fins used to win a lot,” he recalls.
After relaunching his brand in 2020 during the time of the global pandemic, the designer has turned his attention to creating sustainable clothing, environmentally friendly textiles and handmade knitwear.
As part of his second season with the CIRCULOSE scheme (which aims to support more Nordic fashion designers into being featured at CPHFW) Ekroth brought his memories to life through traditional Finnish knitwear, bold motifs - such as birds referencing his home nation’s love for nature - and fair-isle-like patterns, and of course Ekroth did not leave the audience without speculation, as there was a frequent alternation between cosy colourful traditional Finnish inspired wear with a hint of florals and ‘cosy grunge’.
As well as the Finnish word “Rakas” being printed onto sweatshirts which, in English, directly translates to love but can also mean the person wearing the clothing is ‘loved’.
Each outfit on the runway was complimented with either a cold pink blush, a fluffy jacket, frizzy hair, fun hat or a pillow bum bag.
A bouncy-covered pompom burnt orange men’s two-piece closed the runway before the crowd applauded Ekroth and his hardworking team. With this boundary-pushing take on sustainable fashion this show, Ekroth has definitely made his name unforgettable in the industry this season.
