90’s Office Siren Aesthetic
As you may have heard, the term ‘Office Siren’ has been floating around the fashion world and has been weaving in and out of social media recently, but what exactly does that term mean?
The phrase ‘Office Siren’ is a chic version of business casual garments derived from the concept of 90s minimalism; it is associated with 90s minimalism's key features and ideas. A fashion Icon who brought the terms ‘sexy’ and ‘business casual’ together, is ‘Gisele Bundchen’ in her role of ‘Serena’ in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (her second film), and brought maximised awareness to the term ‘Office Siren’. Her attire was labelled ‘Office Siren’ through her thin-framed glasses, tight-fitting and figure-accentuating blouse coupled with a cropped, fitted blazer.
Another fashion Icon who has stepped into the 90s minimalist styles limelight is the iconic Bella Hadid. Hadid has been spotted wearing some relevant features of the style, where the staple pieces of tailored wide-leg trousers, fitted, striped v-neck blouse and Bayonetta frame glasses appeared.
As briefly touched upon, key features such as Bayonetta glasses and figure-hugging shirts make up 90s minimalism fashion statements, but what else? The addition of a lovely pair of light grey or; jet black tailored trousers, preferably wide-leg to add some flare, fits well with this look. It adds to the chic business casual countenance perfectly as it doesn't lack the boring aura of regular tight-fitting straight-leg tailored trousers.
Moreover, the incorporation of kitten heels adds a stylish flair to business-appropriate looks, the kitten heels make the outfit that bit more exciting, because, after all, the aim is to spice up office basics and wearing black simple ‘work shoes’ does not fit the brief.
In addition, makeup takes an effortless approach, with fresh skin and 90’s hues it works well for the office siren aesthetic. Subtle smoke, cat-eye liner and a glossed lip offer up sultry sophistication whilst not taking away too much attention from the outfit.
Back on track to the 90s minimalist style, a figure-pleasing shirt styled with just the top few buttons open is a must-have! I recommend a striped option as it adds a little extra to your styled outfits and is a flattering choice for all figures.
However, if blouses and tailored trousers aren't up your street, do not panic, as this gorgeous style can still be achieved through a lovely dark grey portrait dress, necklines with thick straps, or a (shorter-than) midi skirt coupled with a slightly looser blouse yet still alludes to your figure, is an iconic office siren silhouette.
Now that we have covered those classic attributes of 90’s minimalism that helped create the ‘Office Siren’ style, we can take a look at brands that encompass the trend and where to find them.
Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren are both brands that are well known for achieving that coveted aesthetic. As this style is 90’s and early 2000s, we preferably want to be searching for these garments on second-hand platforms such as Depop, Vestiaire and Vinted. For the best search result, we suggest using specific keywords such as, ‘Wide-leg tailored trousers’ or the likes of ’90’s vintage’. When shopping for things like blazers, I recommend sizing down to get that fitted look or a cropped fitted blazer would do just that without any sizing hassles.
Cool 90’s accessories can be found by searching for things like; large hair clips, vintage baguette handbags and lastly Kitten heels. These accessories add a more classy approach to that business casual appearance.
Last but not least, glasses! As touched upon in our eyewear article, The Bayonetta style being popular today can be searched quite easily. The search results from that term alone reveal just how easily you can nab a pair for a good price. They are the perfect accessory to effectively pull off this 90’s Office Siren look.
